CSC poised to make double-bunking the norm, documents show
Long time allegations and equally long time denials by CSC, the practice of double bunking is becoming policy, according to Stone. “The Correctional Service of Canada is planning a dramatic shift in policy that could make double-bunking the norm and erases all references to maximum capacity in federal prisons,” according to correspondence obtained by iPolitics. http://www.ipolitics.ca/2012/12/03/csc-poised-to-make-double-bunking-the-norm-documents-show
The Atlantic – Andrew Cohen
Saving Private Manning
Yesterday’s communiqué had an article on the US Bureau of Prisons and its incapacitated or terminally ill prisoners. Cohen reports that Manning, who pleads guilty to seven of the eight charges against him, has some pointed critiques of the Bureau “over the deplorable conditions and the mental health mistreatment of inmates at the Bureau of Prison’s infamous “Supermax” facility near Florence, Colorado.” A U.S. district judge will soon decide if the files of the prisoners should be available for review by plaintiff lawyers. http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2012/12/saving-private-manning/265801

You’re trying to help that person move back towards a positive state of being,” says Squier. http://www.royalroads.ca/news/building-community-victims-and-offenders

Tackling the rise of female gang members
The social context of girls in gangs is insightful and well articulated by Ukeila Prophet, a rising theatrical star in a new play called “She.” Ukeila says was “caught in the middle…You may not be directly involved but you could have a brother or a friend who is; I grew up around gang culture,” she explains. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/women/womens-life/9718334/Tackling-the-rise-of-female-gang-members.html
