Though correlations have been found previously, the connection was thought to be from other factors. Camden Battles Crime and Poverty in Effort to Re-Vitalize Community
This New Jersey industrial town has been abandoned by its industrial and manufacturing base and suffering serious economic decline for some time. The town recently disbanded the unionized police force and established the Camden Country Police Department. The unionized police force had an absenteeism of 30% while crime was skyrocketing.
